Colonia Unidad and Esperanza Court represent a coordinated effort to expand and preserve affordable housing for farmworkers and low-income families in Woodburn, Oregon. Colonia Unidad introduced 44 new apartment homes across four residential buildings, designed with family-centered features such as a playground, raised garden beds, and a community room with a commercial kitchen. The development prioritized long-term durability and cultural relevance, incorporating sustainable building systems and a mural celebrating local residents. Meanwhile, Esperanza Court underwent a full renovation of its 12 existing units, addressing critical moisture issues through envelope replacement and HVAC upgrades, while also modernizing kitchens and adding outdoor amenities.
Both projects were developed and constructed in tandem, allowing for efficient resource use and consistent quality across the sites. The bundled approach enabled streamlined financing and construction management, while ensuring that both new and existing residents benefited from improved living conditions. Together, Colonia Unidad and Esperanza Court reflect a holistic investment in community stability and sustainability.
